As the biggest poker tournament in the world, The World Series of Poker is routinely held every year in Las Vegas, United States of America. The presence of the WSOP became even more evident, when in 2005, this tournament received funding from one of the well-known companies, Caesars Entertainment Corporation.

Forerunner to The Presence of The World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker did not appear suddenly. The forerunner of this tournament began in 1970. At that time, a person named Benny Binion invited seven famous poker players to come to Horseshoe Casino to take part in a single match.

At the championship at that time, even though he had not yet presented an extraordinary tournament, Binion had been able to show a great championship. In the championship he carried, Binion implemented several types of poker games such as five card stud, razz, seven card stud, and Texas Holdem. The game of Texas Holdem is the main event in this championship.

In that first event, Johnny Moss managed to become the overall champion and became the world poker champion for the first time. For this victory, Moss is entitled to a silver cup and also some money.

The poker tournament initiated by Binion turned out to attract the interest of the people of Las Vegas until finally the championship was maintained until now.

The Development of The World Series of Poker from Time to Time

The development of The World Series of Poker has progressed from year to year. In 1972, the main event of Texas Holdem remained irreplaceable. However, of course there is a change in the amount of money up for grabs, namely US$10,000. This amount is also an enlarged amount from the previous year, namely in 1971.

In 2002, Daniel Negreanu determined that the main event must use a restricted device. This system is assumed by Negreanu as for choosing poker abilties in preference to unlimited use of media. The idea put forward by the brilliant Negreanu turned out to be unacceptable to the organizers of The World Series of Poker.

However, despite the refusal, the organizers of this tournament have increased the amount of the stakes when playing poker to 50,000 dollars. This makes the opportunity to make a profit in this world poker championship higher than in previous years.

Subsequently, in 2004, Harrah Entertainment purchased the Binion Horseshoe casino. At that time, the viability of The World Series of Poker was called into question. With various decisions, Harrah Entertainment still held this tournament, but moved to the Rio Hotel and its own casino.

The new round of The World Series of Poker took place in 2005. At that time, the WSOP changed its venue again, namely back to downtown Las Vegas and was held to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the city’s founding.

After being held in Las Vegas again, The World Series of Poker reached the peak of its popularity, where this event attracted quite a lot of fans on live broadcasts via Television of Champions (TOC).

Previously, the WSOP was held in June or July. However, starting in 2008, the WSOP main event was postponed to November. The longest delay occurred in 2012, which started in October due to a clash with the schedule for the United States presidential election.
